Halloween 2001: Dance Dance Revolution, Tribal Lawyer, and a boisterous Bacchus referring to himself in the third person.

i slept so well last night. it's amazing how quickly time passes when you're gawking at the many, many quirky, creative costumes on the Castro. and how quickly exhaustion sets in.

we started off the evening with several rounds of Dance Dance Revolution, that video game where you have to match the dance steps the computer spits out at you. i'd never played but was instantly hooked. i'm sure my downstairs neighbors appreciated all the rhythmic stomping.

after that and a few libations, we walked up to the Castro where many thousands had already arrived. Dennis, dressed as Bacchus, the god of wine and gaiety, insisted upon referring to himself in the third person loudly the entire evening. (e.g. "Bacchus thinks your costume is great.", "Bacchus says, 'Take it all off!'", etc.)

my costume came out quite nicely. i was dressed as a Tribal Lawyer. (you've heard of a "trial lawyer", right...) not bad for a last minute costume.

i have to admit, though, the Halloween scene wasn't as much fun this year. either i'm getting too old or the spirit of the day has changed. i was bored with the fanfare and rambunctiousness exceptionally quickly. and pushing my way through the hordes, too many not in costume, lost whatever luster it had in mere moments.

yes, i'm well on my way towards being a grumpy old man.
