last night we drank Guinness for free.
somehow, i got on some list where liquor companies send me invites to these "events" that involve drinking free booze and listening to marketing hoo-haw. even though i'd scheduled myself to go to a couple of these earlier, i'd never actually made it to one. this was my first.
we got there and, after filling out a silly questionnaire, were served bottomless pints of Guinness and endless plates of pretty good food. for free. i drank three pints in the first half-an-hour alone. sure, they gave us the silly marketing presentation but it was only 20 minutes long and i actually learned some things about my favorite drink that i didn't know before.
for starters (and by telling you this, i'm sure i'm doing exactly what they intended which is spreading the gospel of Guinness), a pint of Guinness has less calories than Budweiser, Amstel Light, Sam Adams Light, skim milk and orange juice! in fact, it only has 126 calories per 12 ounces or 196 calories per pint. who knew? and it's nitrogenated, not carbonated. this is one of the reasons i love it so much -- i find carbonation harsh and it gives me the hiccups. also, and this one both Corinne and i disputed, the Guinness poured in pubs in Ireland is exactly the same as Guinness poured here.
fascinating stuff. we vowed to drink more.
afterwards, when they kicked us all out, we went bowling. we both failed to completely embarrass ourselves and i managed to keep above 100 each game. oddly, my left butt cheek is very sore and i have a deep scrape on my thumb's first knuckle. bowling injuries.
i think every Wednesday should be that fun.
