i am oh so tired. need sleep. monday bad. clock move faster. move! MOOOOOOVE!
my dad did an inspection on the house this morning. (for those of you who don't know, my dad is a professional building inspector with about 20 years experience and twice that many certifications -- he knows his shit.) he found a few problems, mostly minor with one major, but said the place was otherwise in excellent shape. "i'm so proud of you," he said. which is funny since i was so proud of him watching him work and listening to him explain each detail. my dad is cool.
so escrow moves on. i will talk to my agent tomorrow about the problems and see how we can mitigate them or maybe get the seller to pay something towards their repair. the mortgage still needs to be finalized and i'm waiting to hear more information from the broker who's in turn waiting for the appraisal. wait, wait, wait ... this is the homebuyers' mantra.
the weekend was good. spent the fourth pretty much glued to the couch with my girl on one side and my parents on the other. we left briefly to go to Macy's and drive by the house but we otherwise made like boulders. we even ordered a couple pizzas rather than cook and when the fireworks started, we were barely able to move to the back deck to watch them. la-zy.
Saturday and Sunday were different stories. we walked around the Fillmore Jazz Festival the first day, taking in the crafts, the food, the music and the people. my parents got a much better idea of the neighborhood -- my new house is two blocks from the Fillmore -- and seemed quite pleased i was moving there. we ended up spending a good four hours walking around until i became cranky and we stopped for a quiet lunch at Galette.
we didn't do much the rest of the afternoon. mom and dad left to see Finding Nemo while Cory and i held down the fort. we watched whatever happened to be on TV (not much) and ate tacos. on the way back to her place, we stopped off for a quick drink at Jade. swanky little bar in the middle of pretty much nowhere. good drinks, funny people, a wall of falling water and a one-way mirror in the bathroom so you can look out at the bar while you pee.
Sunday, my parents went off to explore the Asian Art Museum and whatever else they could find. Corinne and i met up with some of her friends and some of their friends and hiked up through Muir Woods to a german beer garden nestled in amongst the evergreens. brilliant place. imagine an Alpine village. add lots of 8.0%-by-volume german beers, lots of character, and some sausage. drink beer, eat sausage, feel drunk, laugh a lot, and then hike back down. couldn't have been a better way to spend an afternoon.
after saying our goodbyes to the group, we headed back into the City and picked up some filets for dinner. dad cooked them up deliciously along with some mushrooms and asparagus, and we enjoyed another leisurely evening on the couch.
now, i'm just plain tired. planning on taking the day off tomorrow. going to a ballgame. chillin'. it's good for the soul, y'know.
