oof. i have a headache. and i'm reminded of that awful character from Office Space who said, "ooh, looks like someone's got a case of the Mondays." that doesn't help my headache.
of course, my weekend was beautiful. perhaps i'm going through withdrawals of its goodness. what? ... it could happen.
after a leisurely Friday evening in front of the TV and a pizza box with my girl and an equally leisurely Saturday morning complete with pancakes and fresh fruit, we strapped the bikes to the top of the car and headed towards Napa. traffic wasn't awful, especially considering our post-noon start. we got up to our riding spot about 2:00p. it was hot and i stripped off a layer before even getting on the bike. we set off along a route that promised good views.
half-way through our planned ride, we stopped for an orange and rest. looking at the time (and feeling a bit sore in the ass) we decided to head back rather than complete the full loop. the ride out had been hard but seemed miles shorter than the ride back. it could have been my pained behind but it seemed like each turn should have been the last one. we'd both been going off markers on the side of the road that we thought indicated five miles distance. turned out we were only half right. instead of 10-12 miles of riding, we did more like 20-25 miles. it was one of those rides that feel like hell until you stop and then you look back on it and think, "wow, that was hell. i'm glad i did it."
the new bike racks, by the way, worked perfectly. good purchase.
back in the car, and closing in on 6:00p, we sped home to gather up supplies for the bonfire we'd invited a bunch of people to. we had no a) beer, b) food, or c) wood. so i suppose it was okay that Corinne was a bit eager to get home. i chose wisely on my route home and managed to miss all but a mile or two of traffic -- a lucky turn of events considering my usual experience with trips home from Wine Country.
i dropped Cory off at home to shower and went to the store for supplies. got the beer, got the food, but Safeway was all out of wood. shoot. back home, showered, packed up the car, stole the drawers from a desk sitting on the sidewalk down the street and went off in search of more wood for the fire. hit another Safeway, no luck, and then thought of Golden Gate Park. they have lots of trees. some of them fall down.
well, no fallen trees but we did find a construction site that provided us a couple palettes and some 1x8's. we arrived at the beach with all supplies in hand and only a few minutes late.
people arrived in waves -- first Corinne's friends who came early and left early, then my friends who came late and left late. we stayed out until nearly midnight before the fire finally died down. it was a bit windy and cold but a little wind break and some lighter fluid fixed both those problems. ended off the night with food at the Lucky Penny with Dennis and Terra.
yesterday, we shopped for eyeglasses and houses. both of us found the former, thanks to a particularly adept eyeglass salesmen. got mine ordered -- they'll be ready in a week! looked at a few houses and realized one we'd seen last weekend was pretty damn cool. Corinne split to a work barbeque and i went to look at it again. loved it. spent all last night dreaming about it. thinking about making an offer on it. it's a very scary decision -- one i didn't think i'd be making for months. but the house is beautiful, spacious and affordable. do i dare pass it up because i'm chicken? should i wait until i'm ready? will i really be more ready than i am now?
offers are due on Wednesday. so we'll see.
after that, plus a couple more houses, i headed home for a nap. woke up to a phone call from my mom and talked to her for a while. then Corinne came back over and we snuggled for a bit before heading to sushi and Finding Nemo. (it's a fish thing, dude.) great flick. you should see it. you will laugh and laugh. got home around midnight. fell asleep to pleasant thoughts of a new house, a really great weekend, and my girl.
