October 14, 2002: " apple pie and a goat on fire "

in case you weren't sure this girl is right for me, let me tell you that she brought me a homemade apple pie on Sunday. if that ain't true love, well, it's still pretty tasty.

the rest of the weekend was also quite edible. rushed home Friday night to meet Yve at my doorstep (who was EARLY and already there) so that we could go to a small art show at The Lab. i've always meant to visit that space so it was nice to have an excuse. there was also one piece that consisted of clips from the old Star Trek series stitched together. the catch was all the clips were shots through the bridge viewscreen. it was quite amusing and i spent several minutes watching it and chuckling to myself. we met a couple of Yve's friends and then headed out for crepes. mm, delicious crepes. then back to my house to watch Smiling Fish and Goat on Fire which turned out to be a very enjoyable movie.

Saturday, Dennis and i met at my house around one and went out shopping on the Haight. i haven't seen him except for at a party in weeks and weeks. our friendship hasn't been at its best for whatever reason and i wasn't sure we'd get a long that well. but it only took a few minutes before we were back in our groove, being silly and cracking jokes. there's a reason he's my best friend.

we shopped around and bought belts and rubber arm bands. had some pretty good thai food then he convinced me to go to Macy's. there, i fell in love with this really cool jacket that looks kind of like a stillsuit from the David Lynch version of Dune. unfortunately, it was also $1000 which i am not going to spend on a piece of clothing unless it can fly. but i made sure to pine over it for a good while anyways. i also lusted after a neat sweater that wasn't around in my size. it was the shopping trip of things not to be. we wandered around to a couple other stores and then headed back to the house. i checked the Giants score. they lost. pfft. just barely but a loss is a loss. we watched TV and got drunk on some pretty tasty beer i had leftover from something. eventually, we got hungry and snagged some burgers from the Lucky Penny. he finally headed home about 11:00p and i headed to bed.

Sunday, i went over to visit Amanda at her studio. SF Open Studios was going that day and i thought i might also peek around at the art for sale. i got there and was instantly overwhelmed by all the good art. there were easily 30 different artists showing their work, most of it quite good. i wandered around and around for three hours, talked with Amanda, bought a neat shadow box piece and pined over this great oil painting. i went back three times to look at it and finally the artist was like, "just buy it!" we ended up making a deal where i'd pay him in installments over the next few months. it's a great painting and i'm glad i bought it but i wasn't prepared to spend that much money all at once. can't wait to see it in my apartment.

did some other errands before heading back to the house to shower and pick up the place before Corinne came over. she arrived around 6:30p and we sat down to watch the rest of the Giants game as they beat the Cardinals in a very tense game. we were yelling at the screen and cheering and high-fiving. it was quite raucous. i'm sure my downstairs neighbors thought i'd gone loopy. we ate dinner at Pasta Pomodoro, which consistently has tasty food for a decent price. we thought about a movie next door at the Kabuki but nothing good was playing so we walked back home and watched Harry Potter instead.

today has been busy as we're trying to make a tomorrow at noon deadline. i also need to get out of here by 3:00p so i can get to the ballpark in time for the game. yes, that's right, i have a Game 5 ticket. if you happen to watch the game, look behind the visiting bullpen, eight rows back. i'll be there. and hopefully i'll be watching the Giants win and move on to the World Series!
