April 10, 2002: " so long, seattle "

sitting in some online cafe, sipping my hyper-minty tea, chewing on my blueberry scone (that was supposed to be a blueberry bagel -- i don't think the counter staff is really putting their everything into their jobs), waiting for my non-smoking room at Hotel Monaco to be ready. this is my last day in Seattle! sniff. not nearly long enough. and too short by ONE DAY. hyper-minty evan (whom i not-so-secretly lust after) is having a birthday bash at the very hotel i'll be leaving the morning before. and no amount of persuading would convince her she was born a day earlier. pfft!

but i've had a lovely time here despite its speedy completion. loads of good food, heaps of good hosting from dear kaer, plenty of lovely sights, one rather enjoyable but soaking rainstorm, and a whole lot of re-lax-a-TION! this has been my routine over the past few days: wander around town taking in sights, taking pictures, taking food into my mouth; meet up with kaer and evan and an assortment of other new peoples at some fun night spot or other (Capitol Club = highly recommended); get dropped off around 11:00 because some people have to work the next day (whatever); walk into the Cyclops which is conveniently located downstairs from my hotel; drink until closing; wander upstairs and watch Cartoon Network until three; wake up around noon.

who could possibly complain about that? well, except for my head once.

by the way, the Ace Hotel, my homebase up until today, was a very comfortable place to stay. for $65/night, i got a decent sized room, very cleanly decorated with modern European furniture and just the right amount of amenities. the bathrooms down the hall (you can pay double and get a deluxe with an in-room bathroom) were spacious, clean and otherwise great. it wasn't the lap of luxury but well worth every penny. and conveniently located in the heart of Belltown -- a somewhat swanky 'hood. my only complaints were the ambient temp (hot! combatted only with the noisy in-room air conditioners) and the excessive cleaning smells (gagging daily on lemon Pledge is no fun). but those have more to do with my hang-ups than anything.

anyways, i'm sure my room is ready by now and then i'm making my way over to some place called EMP -- a music museum of sorts from what i hear. but i less interested in what's inside that the building itself. it looks something akin to a giant pile of melted crayons or some gummy worms that someone threw up. at least that's the impression i've taken in from the couple drive-bys we've done. more on that, post-morteum.
